Heart of Thunder paints a chestnut horse with a white blaze, charging straight towards you with its mane flying, against loose swirls of teal and grey. Everything in the picture leans forward, from the flying mane to the hooves. It is a bold, energetic piece for horse lovers, and for anyone whose room could use a little motion.

What you'll paint

The horse is built from copper, burnt orange and deep brown, with near-black shadows under the chest and legs and a pale blaze running down the face. Behind it, the background is abstract: cloudy teals, silvery greys and whites, with a few orange flecks echoing the coat. The brushwork feels expressive rather than precise, so you can paint with confidence and let the colour shapes sit side by side. It is a medium painting, with strong, clear shapes in the body and softer, freer areas around it, and the head, which everyone will look at first, is worth the most patience.
