Letters from Monastery paints a golden-roofed Himalayan monastery on a mountainside, with long strings of prayer flags slanting across the sky. A small red gate and a courtyard sit below the temple. It is a detailed, colourful scene for travellers, trekkers and anyone drawn to the stillness and thin, bright air of mountain places.

What you'll paint

Prayer flags in blue, red, green, yellow and white fall in diagonals across a deep blue mountain, while a blue-roofed building and a parked car share the courtyard below the temple. Clouds drift across a lighter sky at the top. The flags are the main challenge, since each is a small shape in its own colour, but they also give the painting its rhythm. Treat it as a detailed painting for a patient evening, with big, calm mountain areas to rest on between the busier parts, and keep the gold roofs for last so they shine against the blue of the mountain.
